Harrison Brunicke scored a pair of goals, including the overtime winner, as the Kamloops Blazers snapped a seven game losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Wenatchee Wild Tuesday.
The first multi-goal game of Brunicke’s WHL career helped the Blazers to their first ever win against Wenatchee since the team moved from Winnipeg in the off-season.
“It feels pretty good to contribute but we’re just happy we got the win today and got it done,” Brunicke, who was ranked by NHL Central Scouting ahead of the CHL Top Prospect’s Game later this month said post-game.
“I felt tired towards the end [of overtime] but just pushed through it and found an opportunity there and luckily I buried it there.”

Wenatchee’s Kenta Isogai and Brunicke scored first period goals as the two teams – who traded their top players ahead of the WHL trade deadline – went into the locker room tied at 1-1.
Kamloops native Jordan Keller – who was acquired by the Blazers in the Fraser Minten trade in November – scored the only goal of the second period on a power play to put Kamloops up 2-1.

Fellow Kamloops native Sam Ward – who was dealt to Wenatchee in the Conor Geekie trade this month – equalized with a short handed marker early in the third at the Town Toyota Center.
Ashton Ferster – on the power play – and Hayden Moore then traded third period goals to ensure that both teams picked up at least one point before Brunicke’s winner 2:22 into overtime.
Dylan Ernst made 35 saves on 38 shots to earn the win for the Blazers. Wenatchee’s Daniel Hauser stopped 32 of 36 Kamloops shots in a losing effort.
Ferster’s multi-point night gave him a career-high five game point streak, while newcomer Blake Swetlikoff – who was acquired in the trade for Dylan Sydor – picked up his first point as a Blazer with the secondary assist on Ferster’s goal.
With the win, the Blazers become the last WHL team to hit double digit wins this season, as they improve to a 10-27-3-2 record, which leaves them dead last in the league standings. Wenatchee meanwhile moves to 24-15-3-0, good for fifth in the Western Conference.
“It’s been tough but we just have to keep going, keep pushing through it, keep pushing in practice, keep grinding it out and have more nights like this,” Brunicke added.
The Blazers are back in action on Saturday for the first of two weekend games in Victoria against the Royals.
Their next home game will be on Jan. 27, when the Kelowna Rockets stop by Sandman Centre.
