The Canadian Olympic Committee will be looking for the next generation of athletes at the Tournament Capital Centre Fieldhouse tomorrow, March 16.
It is urging local athletes between the age of 14 and 25 to attend the RBC Training Ground event between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., where they’ll be able to try their hand at 11 different Olympic sports.
They’ll also be able to speak to four-time Olympian Mercedes Nicoll, who will be on hard to “inspire participants and answer questions about the Olympic journey.”
“Now entering its ninth year, the program has already found and funded 13 Olympians and seven Canadian Olympic medallists, many in sports they’d never considered, and put hundreds more into Canada’s Olympic talent pipeline,” a statement from event organizers said.
“Any athlete who has ever wondered if they might be suited for an Olympic sport – regardless of their current sport or background – are encouraged to attend.”
Interested athletes will have their anthropomorphic measurements taken – things like height, weight, head circumference, and body mass index – before they’ll have a chance to show their core speed, power, strength and endurance to Olympic talent scouts.
“With the Paris 2024 Olympic Games fast approaching, as many as 20 RBC Training Ground graduates are in line for spots on Team Canada,” the statement added.
“This would mark a milestone for the program after five graduates represented Canada at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games and eight graduates competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.”
Those interested in attending are being encouraged to register online though walk-ins are also welcome.
