RCMP say they’ve seized drugs, guns, and vehicles following some “proactive patrols” of a North Kamloops neighbourhood Wednesday evening, June 12, as part of their effort to disrupt the local drug trade.
They say officers from the Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) were patrolling the 1800-block of Parkcrest Avenue around 4:35 p.m. when they came across a pair of parked vehicles – a Chrysler sedan and a Ford pickup truck – that had recently reported stolen.
In addition to the two vehicles, police say they also seized two motorcycles, about three ounces of suspected illegal drugs, and two loaded firearms.
A suspect – who was not identified – was also arrested for possession of stolen property, but later released without charges.
“These seizures are part of the continued efforts of our CRU and frontline officers to suppress and reduce crime, with a focus on criminals who are known to be associated to the illegal drug trafficking trade,” Kamloops RCMP Superintendent Jeff Pelley said. “Officers interacted with several people known to police who were present at the Parkcrest location.”
“Based on the items located and the ongoing investigation, we are confident that yesterday’s presence helped mitigate and prevent a potential act of violence.”
Police are asking people with information that may be related to this incident to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-18146.
