Overlanders Bridge seen from the west of the span
Police and emergency service partners are currently present along the Thompson river shoreline in search of a missing man.
Kamloops RCMP say they were called out at 7:15 Tuesday morning to help Kamloops Fire Rescue with a water rescue near the 100-block of Lorne Street.
“Two men had been heard yelling for help from the river near Overlanders Bridge,” said Kamloops RCMP in a release. “One was located and brought to shore to be treated by paramedics, but the other remains outstanding.”
“According to the report, the two men had been in a small boat on the river when it capsized,” said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. “One man was wearing a lifejacket and resurfaced; the second was not wearing one and was not immediately located.”
Search and Rescue, the Kamloops police boat, and RCMP Air Services, are assisting with the search.
The missing person is a white man in his 40s, bald with a scruffy beard.
He was dressed in a blue and black checkered shirt and blue pants.
“As the search continues, we’re asking the public to please remain on the lookout and report anyone who appears on the shoreline who could be our missing person,” said Cpl. Evelyn.
