Make it two gold medals for former Kamloops resident Cody Fournie at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
The 35-year-old Fournie set a new Paralympic record in the men’s T51 100 metre wheelchair race Friday as he crossed the finish line with a time of 19.63 seconds.
Defending Paralympic champion Peter Genyn of Belgium – the previous Paralympic record holder – was second with a time of 20.47 seconds, while Finland’s Toni Piispanen won bronze with a time of 21.14 seconds.

Fournie, who now calls Victoria home, won gold in the T51 men’s 200 metre race earlier this week ahead of Piispanen (38.55 seconds) and Genyn (38.65 seconds).
The former wheelchair rugby player was roommates with Kamloops native Greg Stewart, who won gold in the F46 men’s shot put on Wednesday.
