
The John Tod Centre Y in Kamloops has temporarily closed its doors today following an early-morning break-in that caused damage to the facility.
According to the Kamloops RCMP, officers responded to a break and enter at approximately 4:20 a.m. on Tuesday morning in the 100 block of Wood Street. The incident, listed under file number 2025-27165, resulted in damage to the building. Police say the investigation is ongoing, and they are asking anyone with information to contact them at 250-828-3000.
As a result of the incident, YMCA staff announced the closure of the John Tod Centre Y for the day, citing safety concerns. Affected services include the Child Care Resource and Referral (CCRR) program, the Drop-In Centre, Baby Locomotion classes, and all health and fitness programs.
“We’re truly sorry for the disruption and appreciate your understanding as we work to restore a safe and welcoming space for everyone at the John Tod Y,” the organization said in a public notice issued Tuesday morning.
There is no word yet on when the facility will reopen, but updates are expected as the situation develops and repairs are made.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the break-in. Anyone with tips or surveillance footage related to the incident is urged to reach out to the Kamloops RCMP.
