The Kamloops RCMP is alerting residents to a recent online fraud case and urging caution when sharing personal and banking information online.
On August 22, 2025, a local victim fell prey to a sophisticated scam after clicking a fraudulent banking link while trying to sell an item on an online marketplace. The victim unknowingly entered personal details into a fake banking webpage. Shortly afterward, they received a phone call claiming fraudulent activity had occurred and were instructed to place their bank cards in an envelope and leave them in the mailbox for pick-up.
The bank cards were collected by the scammer and used soon after.
In a statement, Corporal Dana Napier of the Kamloops RCMP said, “As part of the investigation, video footage of the alleged suspect was obtained. To help advance the case, we are releasing an image of the suspect with the hope that the public can assist in identifying him.”
The RCMP reminds the public that banks never send couriers to collect bank cards or personal information. They advise doing all banking transactions in person or through official, secure channels, and to remain vigilant against potential online scams.
