The City of Kamloops has officially launched ePermit, a new online platform designed to simplify the way residents, builders, developers, tradespeople, and registered professionals apply for building and planning permits.
The platform, spearheaded by the City’s Development, Engineering, and Sustainability Department, currently supports 21 types of permit applications and integrates with the City’s secure MyCity portal. Users can now submit applications, upload required documents, pay fees, and track the status of their permits online—anytime, from anywhere.
“This has been a multi-year project involving several internal departments and external consultants,” said Marvin Kwiatkowski, Director of Development, Engineering, and Sustainability. “We’re really excited to go live with these 21 permit types. People can now apply online, pay online, and track their applications online. It’s more user-friendly and ensures we have a complete application before the process even begins.”
The ePermit system aims to streamline approvals by prompting applicants to submit all necessary documents upfront. While internal review processes remain, having complete applications from the start is expected to save time and reduce delays. Users can also receive real-time updates and notifications as their applications progress.
Kwiatkowski emphasized that this launch is just the first phase. “We’ll be adding more permit types over the next year and are looking at other opportunities to improve our processes. We’re excited to hear feedback from the public and make adjustments as needed.”
The move also aligns with provincial priorities to accelerate housing and development approvals. “This is a step in the right direction to help meet housing targets. It’s not a silver bullet—there are other factors like the economy and interest rates—but it will definitely help,” Kwiatkowski noted.
Through ePermit, users can:
- Apply for residential, commercial, and multi-family building permits, plumbing permits, swimming pool permits, demolitions, retaining walls, and more.
- Submit requests for development, minor development variance, rezoning, and signage permits.
- Upload all required project documents and drawings.
- Track multiple applications and access related project documents.
- Utilize helpful resources such as guides and checklists.
For those needing extra support, a self-serve help kiosk is available at the Development, Engineering, and Sustainability building at 105 Seymour Street.
