UPDATE: Police Arrest Suspects in Kamloops and Tk’emlúps Arsons
Kamloops and Tk’emlúps RCMP, with assistance from the Crime Reduction Unit, have arrested two alleged suspects in connection with the arsons previously reported in Kamloops and Tk’emlúps.
Police say the arrests were made on the afternoon of January 14, 2026, after the Crime Reduction Unit located the suspects. Investigators allege the male suspect was involved in both the Tk’emlúps business compound fire and a separate fire at a Kamloops business.
Both suspects were initially held in custody. A court hearing is scheduled for later today for the male alleged to be responsible for both incidents.
“These crimes were prioritized given the risk to the public,” said Superintendent Pelley. “By applying a multi-jurisdictional lens to offenders, and with the help of the public, we were able to quickly locate and take into custody the persons we believe are responsible for these reckless acts.”
Police are investigating two related arson incidents in Kamloops and Tk’emlúps that occurred over a four-day span earlier this month.
The first incident took place on January 7, 2026, at approximately 2:06 a.m. Police allege that a man and a woman cut through a chain-link fence in the 700-block of Athabasca Street, broke into a storage facility, and stole about $4,000 worth of tools. Before leaving the property, the suspects allegedly poured gasoline onto wood inside the facility and set it on fire.
A second fire was reported on January 11, 2026, at around 12:12 p.m., when Kamloops RCMP responded alongside Kamloops Fire Rescue to a blaze in the 600-block of Kingston Avenue. In that incident, the suspects are believed to have climbed a fence to gain access to a secure compound, where a pallet and a cardboard box were intentionally set on fire.
“Video footage from both incidents indicates the same alleged suspects may be responsible for both fires,” said Corporal Dana Napier, spokesperson for the Kamloops RCMP and Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment. She added that Kamloops Fire Rescue investigators and RCMP Forensic Investigation Services are assisting with both investigations.
Police are asking anyone with information related to either incident to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment at 250-314-1800, and to reference file numbers 2026-1054 and 621.
