The City of Kamloops is bringing back its popular annual surplus auction this spring, offering residents and businesses a chance to bid on a wide range of used and surplus items—including a new selection from a post-secondary partner.
This year’s auction features a new collaboration with Thompson Rivers University, which is contributing bookstore fixtures and office items such as shelving, carts, displays, office furniture, and mini fridges. The partnership adds to the usual mix of surplus municipal goods and expands the variety of available lots.
Alongside the university items, the auction will once again include surplus assets from the City of Kamloops, such as vehicles, bicycles, power tools, office equipment, and other miscellaneous items. Some unclaimed property collected by the City and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police will also be included.
A full inventory of auction items—complete with photos—will be posted on the Team Auctions website, which will serve as the sole bidding platform. Preview listings are also available through Kamloops.ca/Auction.
For those wanting a closer look before bidding, in-person viewing will be held daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre curling rink, located at 1665 Island Parkway in Kamloops. McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre Curling Rink. The viewing period runs throughout the auction, which concludes at approximately 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 10.
Online bidding opens Thursday, May 7 at 9 a.m., with lots closing in stages starting May 10. Registration is required to participate.
“The annual auction continues to be an effective way to manage City assets while returning value to the community,” said Brian Grant, Procurement Analyst with the City of Kamloops. “We’re especially excited to partner with Thompson Rivers University this year to offer an expanded selection of items, including a unique art collection that we know will generate strong interest.”
City officials are also encouraging residents to check the auction listings for lost or unclaimed property. Anyone who believes they have identified an item is asked to attend the viewing or contact the City’s Planning and Procurement Division at purchasing@kamloops.ca, as well as Team Auctions at lhicks@teamauctions.com. Claimants must provide a detailed description of the item, its auction number, and their contact information.
If ownership is verified, the item will be removed from the auction and claimants will be contacted by City or RCMP representatives with next steps.
