Two men are facing criminal charges following an alleged break-and-enter at a Merritt car dealership Friday evening.
According to the Merritt RCMP, officers were called to the Murray GM dealership on Nicola Avenue at approximately 6:26 p.m. on May 29 after receiving a report from a member of the public that a man had broken into the business.
Police say officers responded immediately and located two suspects at the scene.
One man was detained without incident, while a second suspect was seen leaving the dealership building and was arrested for break-and-enter.
Mounties say the second suspect became combative during the arrest despite officers using de-escalation techniques. RCMP members subsequently deployed a conducted energy weapon, commonly known as a Taser, before taking the man into custody.
The suspect was transported to hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.
RCMP say Blake Dunstall has been charged with break-and-enter and obstructing a peace officer under the Criminal Code. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
Meanwhile, Maynard McRae has been charged with break-and-enter and was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
Police say the matter is now before the courts and no further information will be released.
