There was a flurry of activity along East Shuswap Road Friday evening after a flare-up from the 500-hectare wildfire that continues to smoulder on the slopes of Mount Peter and Mount Paul.
Helicopters from the BC Wildfire Service hit the blaze near the Sage Meadows Modular Home Park from the air; picking up water from the South Thompson River only metres away.
East Shuswap Road was closed from Sun Rivers to Lafarge as Kamloops Fire and Rescue hit the flames from the ground as well.
KFR Captian Wade Lindoff says they were called to assist wildfire crews around 7pm.
“We had about 16 people over there assisting the forest service with that incident.”
Residents at Sage Meadows were placed on evacuation alert but never had to leave their homes.
Several residents documented on social media efforts to save a bald eagle’s nest with two eaglets inside.
Their old and dry tree caught fire and flames were climbing towards the nest but crews were able to put them out just in time.
