The STEPS Health clinic in Valleyview is lobbying B.C.’s health minister for additional resources and they have the support of their local MLA.
The clinic has written Health minister Adrian Dix asking he fund and allocate to them four nurse practitioners.
Kamloops South MLA Todd Stone agrees and has also written the minister.
“To Adrian Dix and the NDP please fund four nurse practitioners for this clinic, which will have the net result of attaching hundreds more if not thousands more Kamloopsians to the primary care that they need.”
Stone says the clinic, which opened in May, is ready for the additional staff.
“They are fully set up. They are operational. They have got the complete range of an inter-disciplinary health team in place including specialists. They are short four nurse practitioner positions.”
The clinic wants to deliver community based health care with an emphasis on under-served and marginalized populations.
