The City of Kamloops is insisting more housing is coming as the BC Real Estate Association says there is a decade low amount of housing stock in the municipality.
Engineering Development Manager Jason Dixon says there is a bit of a time lag from conception to a project being built noting there is a ton of projects in the pipeline.
That said Dixon also admits his team has been swamped as permits flood in.
“We have definitely struggled this year with keeping up with the demand. It has been a bit of frustration of ours that we haven’t been able to maintain the processing times that we normally like too. We certainly are not in the realm of what you saw in Vancouver with reported building permit wait times of 50 plus weeks. We are certainly no where near that but we are definitely not getting permits out as quickly as we would like.”
Dixon says the permitting delays at Kamloops City Hall can be measured in weeks.
He says they have have made a new hire so help is coming to speed things along.
