The Interior Health Authority is looking to making improvements to the delivery of services through the supervised consumption sites.
Tara Mochizuki, the Manager of Mental Health and Substance Abuse says an evaluation identified areas for improvement. Particularly the constraints associated with the use of an RV, such as space limitations, privacy concerns, and medicinal issues.
She says an action plan has been developed to enhance the service.
“I think people were just concerned about having this in their community. So having a supervised consumption service in the community, and believing that it brings more negative people to those areas.”
7100 people visited the two sites between June of 2017 to July of this year, with 22 overdoses reversed.
