It was a unanimous decision by Kamloops City Council that took only ten seconds.
“And history has been made,” that was word from mayor Ken Christian.
The first ever marijuana store in BC – operated by the BC government, will officially open tomorrow in the Columbia Place Shopping Centre.
“The business does comply with permitted uses and regulations in our zoning bylaw, it also complies with the 150 metre set back form lands zoned school,” said Development Services Director Marvin Kwiatkowski.
“Since this is the first retail licence in Kamloops, the 100 metre separation from other licenced retail store does not apply.”
Kwiatkowski says there were no concerns registered about the location.
It will be the only retail location in B.C. ready for the first day of legalized recreational cannabis in Canada.
The vote was 8-0, – Councillor Denis Walsh declared a conflict of interest, as he’s applying to open a retail cannabis store of his own.
