Residents in Merritt will be asked for their input on a proposed cannabis store in the City’s Downtown.
City council were unanimous in asking for public consultation over the Quilchena Cannabis Company’s plans to open a store at 1937 Quilchena Ave.
Director of Corporate Services Sean Smith says there has been a lot of interest in setting up shop.
“This is the first to make it to this stage, where we’re having where we’re having the province advance the application for public consultation,” he said. “There’s certainly been interest, but we’ll have to see how much of that will result in provincial licence applications.”
He says Merritt City Council will make a final decision after the province okays the application.
“It fits within the zoning that the city has planned here, it’s in the C2 zone,” added Smith. “There’s been lots of discussion with the owner, and they seem like they’re committed to being good corporate citizens.”
The store plans to be open from 10 AM to 8 PM every day of the week. Since it’s the first application, there are no concerns at this point with this store being within 100 metres of another cannabis store.
