The Thompson Rivers University Faculty Association is pleased a professor suspended after speaking out against so-called predatory journals will be back on the job.
President of the TRU Faculty Association Tom Friedman says it was the correct decision to reinstate professor Derek Pyne, noting a grievance has been filed.
“We are still investigating some of the allegations that have been made that had led to the suspension,” he said. “We think the suspension was not appropriate.”
“However, at the same time, we are aware that there are certain allegations that have to fully investigated.”
Pyne has questioned the practise of submitting research to predatory journals pointing out in his research that several TRU departments contribute.
Pyne claims the university still owes him two weeks’ pay.
