We could see results from the Proportional Representation referendum before Christmas.
That’s according to Elections BC Spokesperson Rebecca Penz.
She says if voters choose to change our electoral system, Elections BC will have a job on its hand.
“What we’ve determined is that it would take approximately 14 months for us to change our systems,” she said. “That would be following the work of a legislative committee and electoral boundaries commission.”
She noted that the government indicated they could have their work done by Spring 2020.
As of this morning, Elections BC says they got back 1,361,000 ballots were returned at the deadline, for a 41% participation rate.
The new electoral system has to be in by July 1, 2021.
