People in Kamloops pushing for a ban on plastics will be having their message heard by local government this week.
The advocacy group is asking the Thompson Nicola Regional District to consider banning plastic bags and all single-use plastics.
One of the advocates is Charlotte Wyvill, who started a petition in the fall to ban plastic bags in Kamloops.
She says that movement has taken on a life of its own.
“The petition itself was about banning plastic bags, now the movement has grown to include all single-use plastics. So there’s a big movement to ban single-use straws and drinking cups, plastic take-out containers, anything like that,” Wyvill says.
On climate change and pollution, she says “people are starting to realize that this isn’t just a small little environmental thing, it’s a whole, international major global crisis.”
The TNRD will receive the group’s input on plastics as information on Thursday.
Wyvill says the group will also be meeting with MLAs Todd Stone and Peter Milobar in January to discuss the topic.
