The Thompson Nicola Regional District is expecting property taxes to drop next year.
The draft budget for 2019 shows a tax decrease of 1.1 per cent. Director of finance Doug Rae says that’s largely due to a decrease in costs for solid waste management.
He says the regional district has signed on with RecycleBC and has found cost-saving measures at landfills.
Rae says people in Kamloops though don’t pay into the TNRD’s solid waste, and they will likely see a small increase in their contributions to the regional district, of about one per cent.
“The City of Kamloops we’re expecting a small increase, about $1.30 for the average assessed Kamloops residential property. But most of the other areas in the TNRD would be looking at a decrease.”
Rae adds the projected decrease of 1.1 per cent could change, depending on home assessments that come out in the new year.
“Once we get the 2019 assessment data, that we’ll use for the final budget that we’ll take to the board in March, that could change things up a little bit.”
