Kamloops city council has voted unanimously to support two new private pot shop applications.
The stores will be located downtown on Victoria Street, and the other one on Tranquille Road on the North Shore.
Councillor Deiter Dudy says there was no reason for council to say no to either application.
“We’ve set out the criteria and if they fall within that there’s not really a reason why we can deny them,” he said. “That’s unless there’s criminal interests or things like that involved.”
“So I didn’t have a problem with either one of them, I think they were cut and dry and people did their homework, and there they are.”
The two stores will now need approval from the BC Liquor Distribution Branch.
With these approvals, Kamloops is up to seven potential stores – three government stores, and four private.
