Environment Canada is recommending that you keep off the Coquihalla tonight, between Hope and Merritt.
There’s a winter storm warning in effect, and there could be between 20 and 30 centimetres of snow by tomorrow.
Meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says they’re also expecting some gusting winds.
“If you don’t have to travel tonight on the Coquihalla, it’s probably best not to,” he said. “We do get into a bit of a break in the action tomorrow afternoon to about Saturday early afternoon, where it should be better weather conditions through the Coquihalla.”
“But do keep an eye on the weather forecast for that.”
This afternoon, there could be rain mixed with snow, with 5 cm near the summit, before it picks up this evening.
If you’re thinking of taking the Fraser Canyon today, there is both a rainfall and a wind warning in effect for the area.
“Those gusting winds can be hazardous as well,” Sekhon added. “With the rain falling, those two things can make hazardous conditions.”
“So, it’s not a great time for travel over the next day here.”
Sekhon notes there may be more snowfall in the area on Saturday night into Sunday, but it should ease up into early next week.
