The mayor of Sun Peaks says the municipality now has a solution to its immediate concern for water supply.
Al Raine says a backup water treatment plant will be running likely within a week.
The new system will be a back-up in case there’s any issues with groundwater aquifers.
“If there’s even any chance of a failure, one needs to have a backup system. So we now have a temporary surface water treatment plant, we have a source of surface water,” Raine says.
“That treatment plant will hopefully be commissioned within a week. And we’ll have it ready should anything happen with the groundwater system. We will have groundwater for the community.”
Sun Peaks borrowed $1.4 million dollars for the project earlier this year.
Raine says the next step to improve water service is to expand reservoirs, but he says there’s “no real panic” for that work and says it will likely start next summer.
