The City of Kamloops will begin a major road construction effort in the new year along West Victoria street from 1st Avenue to the Overlanders Bridge.
City Capital Projects Manager Darren Crundwell says is looking at the project as a way to find more efficiencies in the procurement process.
“The front end is more of a proposal. So it is about qualifications and experience. We are evaluating the project team, the contractor, essentially the proponent on much more than just price. Price is part of the package as well but it is not just like it is a tender. A tender if they meet the requirements in the documents and they have the lowest price they get the job. This is different.”
Crundwell says once the city selects a proponent the next phase will be serious planning including meeting with impacted businesses along the street.
“Once we go through the proposal process and we select a proponent and we review the pricing and we start talking with the proponent and there is a negotiation phase as well obviously. Provided we can get through that then we start planning and really taking the communication, and meetings with business, and what not really serious.”
He says if all goes well the hope is to begin work by April.
Editors Note: Angelo Iacobucci passed away December 14th. While we work through our tremendous loss he continues to be a big part of Radio NL as he always will be. We have found a folder of almost 30 stories he had prepared for the holiday season. This is one of them.
