The Trans-Canada Highway is closed through the Fraser Canyon due to power lines on the road near the Jackass Summit.
The closure between Lytton and Boston Bar happened at about 10 a.m., and according to DriveBC there’s no estimated time for the highway to reopen.
Drivers can use Highway 8 from Spences Bridge to Merritt and the Coquihalla from Merritt to Hope as an alternate route.
Yesterday, the highway through the Canyon was closed for several hours due to a jack-knifed semi truck across the road. On Dec. 20, a rock slide and downed power lines near Yale also forced a closure of the highway for about two hours, when heavy winds battered much of southern B.C.
Elsewhere today, many Kamloops-area highways appear to be in good shape following Friday night’s snowfall in the region.
The Coquihalla Highway appears wet but otherwise clear on both sections between Kamloops and Hope, as per DriveBC highway cams.
Environment Canada is calling for heavy rain on the Coquihalla between Hope and Merritt before changing to snow later today. Up to five centimeters of snow is predicted today at the Coquihalla Summit, and driver reports indicate there are heavy winds through the mountain pass as well.
Elsewhere, DriveBC says a section of the Trans-Canada between Sicamous and Revelstoke will be closed for avalanche control work later this evening, between 7 and 9 p.m.
