Property assessment are in the mail and homeowners can expect an increase and for some it will be substantial.
Thompson Okanagan Deputy Assessor Graham Held says there were generally increases across the board with assessment up between five and 25% for detached homes in the rural areas around Kamloops
In the urban areas of the city assessments were up to 15%.
“Generally most of the communities saw very similar increases. We did have a few stand outs.”
Among them Held says Sun Peaks led the charge but the community was not alone.
“We actually did see some significant increases in places like Clinton. Lillooet, and Barriere. But the real stand out in the region overall was the increase that we saw in Sun Peaks.”
Sun Peaks saw an 18% property assessment jump but held says that is not the whole story.
“But when you look at the stratified properties, which really make up a bigger portion of the Sun Peaks properties it was 23%.”
He says about $317-million of the region’s updated assessments is from new construction, rezoning, and subdivisions.
