The general manager of the BC Wildlife Park in Kamloops says it still faces financial uncertainty due to the Employer Health Tax.
Glen Grant says he is unclear whether the Wildlife Park will have to pay the new provincial tax this year despite assurances from the province help is coming.
“I know they made an announcement a little while ago, probably three months ago, that not-for-profits would be exempt. But again we’ve never had a confirmation; we’ve never had a letter, we’ve never had a phone call or an email or anything to say that we are.”
“We have to table a budget to our board of directors at the end of January, and all those things have to be in place.”
The Ministry of Finance told NL that all the details are in the legislation for all to see, and that the information can be found online.
It includes exemptions and reduced rates for non-profits based on their payroll. Any non-profit under $1.5 million in payroll will not pay the tax, meanwhile non-profits under $4.5 million will pay a reduced rate.
