Merritt child killer Allan Schoenborn is looking to be allowed escorted visits into the community.
Schoenborn was before the BC Review Board yesterday seeking that freedom.
Spokesperson for the victim Darcy Clark and her family Dave Teixiera says the hearing lasted eight hours, and he says Clarke’s family don’t want his request to be approved.
“There’s a number of reasons, and certainly they all revolve around safety and vengeance from Allan Schoenborn,” he says. “Allan Schoenborn has stated that Darcy Clarke is ‘unfinished business,’ and that’s a concern the family has.”
Schoenborn is being held at the Colony Farms Psychiatric Hospital in Coquitlam and Teixiera points out that Clarke lives in that area.
“These murders took place in Merritt, Darcy moved from Merritt into the Tri-Cities to get away from him only to find that he’s in custody here in the Tri-Cities. So it’s a sad situation.
“(He) could be let out on escorted leave, end up at Coquitlam Centre or at a park, and Darcy Clarke and her family members could accidentally run into him, because she lives in the area.”
Teixeira says Schoenborn has been able to have escorted leaves twice but says that privilege has been taken away twice, and adds the hospital likely won’t deem him fit to be out in the community for at least another year.
He says the Review Board will make a decision within 45 days.
