One TNRD area director says he expects there will soon be calls for highway safety improvements in the North Thompson.
Thompson-Headwaters area director Stephen Quinn says he thinks the Ministry of Transportation will be asked to take some sort of action.
This comes after two truck crashes in a week on the Yellowhead Highway caused diesel spills in the North Thompson.
Both resulted in water warnings and in one case a do not use order for Vavenby residents lasting almost a week.
“This week’s board will have a motion asking highways to have a look at some of the safety issues that we have identified. In fact I am pretty sure they are already looking at them.”
He also has some advice to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“When it comes to accidents in the winter on this highway the only advice I can offer is slow down.”
Quinn says he thinks concrete guardrails could be put in along that stretch of the highway.
