The BC River Forecast Centre says not to worry about snowpack levels in the Nicola.
Snowpack values to Jan. 1 say the snowpack for the Nicola was 28 per cent below normal.
But, hydrologist Jonathan Boyd says that’s probably an anomaly, since samples were only taken from two of the eight sampling stations for that area.
He says the sampling stations used for the Nicola were at Brenda Mines and at Lac Le Jeune.
“I would personally guess that the Nicola as a whole is probably around that value, around the 90 per cent. It’s just that the two sites that were sampled were unusually lower than all of the surrounding regions,” Boyd says.
“I think in the February 1st when we have the eight stations all measured we’ll have a truer value.”
The snowpack levels province-wide were sitting at an average of four per cent below normal on Jan. 1.
