The Village of Chase is working to address erosion to Chase Creek within its boundaries.
Chief administrative officer Joni Heinrich says the village has applied for a grant to do remediation work worth $1.16 million.
“We’ve had some flooding going on over the years, here and there depending on the volume of water that’s coming through during the spring. And so we’re hoping that we can do some shoring on some of the creek bank areas where erosion has occurred,” she says.
“When this funding opportunity presented itself, we said hey, this is an opportunity to move on some of this work that really needs to be done.”
The grant would cover the entire project cost if successful, and Heinrich says the work would only happen if there is grant funding.
She adds it will likely be a few months before the village finds out if its funding application is successful.
“Usually it takes funding authorities a few months to go through the applications, depending on how many they get. And quite often on 100-per-cent-dollar funding projects, there usually is an over-subscription. That means basically lots of communities put in applications.”
