The mayor of Cache Creek says his community is coping after a fatal shooting earlier this week.
Santo Talarico says the village of about 1,000 people is still not completely sure what transpired but says people there are handling the news well.
“We’re a pretty resilient community,” he says. “We haven’t had a homicide in Cache Creek that I’m aware of since I’ve lived here since 1973, so this is new to the majority of the people in our community.”
Police haven’t released much, but have only said that a man was killed in a home in Cache Creek on Monday night after an incident involving two men who knew each other. It’s unclear if any charges have been laid in relation to the incident.
“We’ve taken the approach that we’re going to let the RCMP do their due diligence,” Talarico says. “The sergeant will inform us at an appropriate time of anything that we need to know as a municipality, and we’re giving them the time and space to do that at this moment.”
A crowdfunding campaign confirms what sources tell NL that the victim of Monday night’s shooting was Brock Ledoux.
