At least one Kamloops Councillor thinks the discussion needs to begin now in dealing with aging infrastructure – including a city hall that is well past its prime.
Kathy Sinclair says it is pretty clear something needs to be done about City Hall noting that from an accessibility perspective alone, the current building is lacking.
Sinclair notes anyone with accessibility challenges would not be able to even get to the second floor.
“There are a lot of projects on the books right now and I think in terms of investing in infrastructure, I don’t think City Hall would be the most popular one in terms of the public and taxpayers,” she said.
“But it is a crucial part of city operations clearly and it needs to be made more accessible. I would like to wait for staff to come back with a report on that.”
Kamloops Mayor Ken Christian has raised the possibility of working with the BC Lottery Corporation if they build a new headquarters as on option to replace City Hall.
