The decision is made but he doesn’t have to like it.
The mayor of Kamloops cast an opposing vote in the decision to roll back recent downtown parking fee hikes.
Ken Christian called it a philosophical argument about where the money was coming from, curbside at the meter, or in tax increases for businesses to fund parking.
He says the move means the city will spend more money to make the change back to the old rates.
“Probably in three to five days,” he said. “Council’s decision yesterday was final. That is what is going to happen now.”
“They will be out there making those changes. It is a software change as well as going out to each and every kiosk and reprogramming them. It cost us about $12,000 to do it two weeks ago and it will cost us about $12,000 to undo it now.”
He says in June council will get a look at the results of a transportation choices study examining downtown parking infrastructure and any future needs.
