The mayor of Kamloops will go straight to the horse’s mouth as his concern mounts over the fate of the downtown BC Lottery Corporation headquarters project.
Ken Christian says he will meet with BC Lottery Corporation CEO Jim Lightbody this morning.
“I want to hear from him as to are there any changes,” he said. “Last I spoke to Minister [David] Eby was that Kamloops was going to remain the headquarters of BCLC with no doubt about that.”
“And that there was going to be a new building because they were outgrowing the one that they have. Their problem is probably not much different than ours at city hall. Both of those buildings are about the same vintage.”
Christian says the BCLC headquarters project is in important for the city as a gateway to the downtown core, perhaps some synergies around a new city hall, and the economic impact downtown from lottery employees.
The Attorney General’s office says BCLC will release an update on the headquarters project this week even as the two Kamloops MLAs sound the alarm over its fate.
