Nearly half of the 827 people surveyed by the Kamloops Public Market Co-operative (KPM Co-op) aren’t in favour of a year-round public market at Riverside Park.
368 were not in favour of the Riverside Park location, and 100 of those respondents were not in favour of the project in it’s entirety.
However, Executive Director Daphane Nelson says the rest either had a positive response or were undecided about the location.
“There were people who chose undecided but then their comments would say something like, ‘I would be in favour of this project as long as it’s not impeding parking as an example, or the use of Heritage House,'” she said.
“That is a really important component of Riverside Park.”
Nelson also noted that they have the entire communities interests at heart.
“We’re not taking away from parking,” she added. “Again, Heritage House users, I actually had come forward with concerns about that.”
“I would love to present to Heritage House users to help them understand the project as a whole.”
The group also says there are plans to meet with and engage local business leaders and organizations to take the project from idea to preliminary concept stage.
Nelson also says the will alleviate many of the concerns raised to them, as they flesh out the details in a development plan.
That plan will be used to project the financials and showcase community support. It’s expected to be completed by this spring.
