It’s been three months since cannabis became legal and in Kamloops, nearly all of the illegal dispensaries have now shut their doors.
The city’s business license inspector Dave Jones says there’s now two illegal storefronts still open compared to 13 before cannabis became legal on Oct. 17 of last year.
“Obviously with the new legislation coming into place, other stores have voluntarily closed,” he says.
“As soon as we get some other legal stores open, I would expect those stores to voice their concerns to the province. And knowing that they went through the process and spent the money, that they ask the province… to ask them to close.”
Jones says any enforcement action on the illegal storefronts depends on direction from council.
