A developer has big plans for an affordable seniors housing apartment in downtown Kamloops.
Kaktus Flats Developments is planning to build a six-storey building at 612 and 630 Victoria Street with commercial space on the bottom floor and housing units on floors two through five.
In total 112 housing units are being proposed, and the city’s director of development services Marvin Kwiatkowski says the project is welcome news for Kamloops.
“We haven’t seen a lot of those come forward recently, we did a few years back. So people have been kind of saying ‘what about seniors?’ So that fills one of the gaps in one of the areas that we see a higher demand,” he says.
“Right now they’re working with BC Housing on a housing agreement. So there is involvement from BC Housing on this project as well, so that has to be worked on as well.”
An application for a development permit to build the apartment is expected to be brought to city council on Feb. 5.
