A Kamloops man is happy with the response from a local Tim Hortons that didn’t let him buy food for a homeless man.
Chilton Nystoruk tried to buy a sandwich for the man on Sunday but staff wouldn’t let him after he said who it was for. Another customer who overheard the situation then bought a $10-dollar gift card and gave it to the man, and Nystoruk says he stuck around to make sure the man was able to buy himself food with it.
Afterwards, Nystoruk made a Facebook post explaining what happened and the store owners then offered to meet with him in person.
“They spent the time telling me that from what they found that the situation was not handled in line with their policies… The conversation between me and the owners went very well. They’ve personally earned my business back,” Nystoruk says.
“I find that the situation is resolved quite well now. They were genuinely sorry and had already taken steps, and also explained to me some of the things that they’ve had to do to protect everybody.”
The post that Nystoruk made received about 800 shares as of Tuesday morning, and he says the positive support he’s heard has been overwhelming.
“Everybody in the community really stood up and showed that if that was to happen, it’s not okay.”
