Kamloops mayor and council have been briefed by RCMP on the latest developments into last week’s brazen shootings killing two men in what police are calling targeted hits.
Mayor Ken Christian wouldn’t reveal what council was told but said he was confident police are on it and are out in the community looking for the killer or killers.
“We were briefed yesterday by Superintendent Leckie and the Inspector in charge of operations and the lead investigator on this matter. It is a police matter so there is limited information that we can provide other than to say we have additional officers in Kamloops working around the clock on these two murders and that they believe them to be targeted.”
Christian says the city is still a safe place to be.
“If you are using drugs you are at risk because of fentanyl and carfentanil. If you are selling drugs you are at risk because of turf wars in and around gangs. We have to be very clear that the general public is not at risk but these are situations that if they get out of control they could pose a risk. The police are on it.”
He says the city’s job is to do everything possible to make gangsters and criminals feel unwelcome in Kamloops.
Last week 31 year old Cody Marcel Mathieu was shot and killed at the Super 8 hotel in Valleyview and then two hours later 41 year old Rex Gill was gunned down at the Comfort Inn and Suites on Rogers Way.
