As the Kamloops Thompson School Board ponders the future of Westsyde Elementary, the Kamloops Museum is grateful to have been given some space there over the last five years.
“Non-collection related materials like plinths or walls, and it’s generous to have had that space,” said Julia Cyr, Museum Supervisor at the Kamloops Museum.
“It allowed for us to have the time to work within our museum to be able to have these pieces back with us on site here.”
Cyr says they could always use all the space they’re given to store the over 20,000 artifacts in their collection, when it’s not on display.
“The majority of our collection is here at the museum in itself,” she said. “With Westsyde, we were able to keep a couple of things out there.”
“They are safe, and in an environmentally controlled environment, and then we were able to make that space here now available. It’s been really helpful for us to have that.”
Cyr notes even if the School Board decides to keep Westsyde Elementary closed, they’ll be moving their collection from there.
