An out of control overnight fire not too far from Sandman Centre had to be put out by crews.
The fire was just east of the arena, scorching a spruce tree on the far side of the tracks.
“Crews used a 10-litre water can and some shovels to get the ground fire out,” said Platoon Captain Darrell Cooper. “After further investigation, they found that flames were travelling up that blue spruce. It was about a 35 footer.”
Cooper says the tree was doused with foam and water, which put out the fire.
No word yet on what sparked the blaze.
