The City of Kamloops is asking for feedback as they begin Phase 3 of their Downtown Master Plan.
Several topics are up for discussion including transportation and mobility, infrastructure and environment, housing, parks and recreation, and community well-being.
Community Planning and Sustainability Manager Jason Locke says they have a simple question to ask residents.
“Will the strategic directions help up to achieve the vision – vibrant, well connected and welcoming downtown?” he said. “We’re also looking for feedback on key opportunity sites, and these sites were first introduced during Phase 2.”
“These are areas where we could see potentially see new development opportunities that help revitalize parts of the downtown but also continue to make downtown a pedestrian-friendly, vibrant place to be.”
As for the goal of Phase 3?
“Getting that feedback on the strategic directions and the opportunity sites in terms of ‘is there anything missing?’ or ‘What other actions can the city take to achieve these strategic directions?'” added Locke.
“And then this helps us start to draft the plans. We want to have a draft Downtown Plan ready in the spring to take to a council workshop.”
Locke adds they’re hoping to present a final plan to council for their consideration in early summer.
The open house is on Thursday, February 20 at Valley First Lounge at the Sandman Centre.
