The President of the Union of BC Municipalities is in Victoria today to keep an eye out for local government priorities in today’s provincial budget.
Arjun Singh says the NDP government has a lot of multi-year commitments around child care and climate action that he is hoping will be funded.
But according to Singh the really important issue for municipalities is housing.
“There are a number of important things,” he said. “I think housing has been a massive file for all of us.”
“It is kind of a generational opportunity because for the first time in a long time the federal and provincial governments are aligned with local governments on getting housing done and organized. We all have our roles to play in housing supply and housing demand.”
One issue the UBCM won’t be pressing the province is on money laundering.
Singh says that issue has not made an appearance as a resolution at the UBCM General Meeting yet.
