No measles cases reported in Kamloops and the BC Interior, according to Interior Health.
The outbreak in Vancouver and Washington sparked concerns in the region.
“If there ever is a case, they say they will ensure people at risk are contacted,” said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Silvina Mema.
The best protection, she notes, is two doses of the MMR vaccine.
Figures from Interior Health show 86 per cent of 2-year-olds in the Thompson-Cariboo-Shuswap and the Okanagan are up to date on their vaccination.
Measles is highly contagious and spreads easily through the air.
Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, and red and inflamed eyes. That’s followed by a rash, which starts first on the face and neck, spreads to the chest, arms and legs, and lasts for at least three days.
If you’re concerned about potential exposure but have no symptoms, call 811 or your local health centre and speak to a nurse.
Interior Health adds if you’ve possibly been exposed and have early symptoms of measles, to go see a doctor.
