A Conservative Kamloops-area MP says he’s heard from many people who have concerns ahead of next month’s federal budget.
Central Okanagan – Similkameen – Nicola MP Dan Albas says during recent townhalls in Merritt people have spoken out about the feds buying the Trans Mountain pipeline and the growing federal deficit.
“Mr. Trudeau put his hand on his heart to the Canadian people and said ‘we are going to run two consecutive years of $10-billion-dollars-a-year deficits to build things like infrastructure, and then over the period of their mandate would return this year to balanced budgets,” Albas says.
“There’s one thing that people know, that you can’t spend more than you make and that eventually today’s deficits end up being tomorrow’s taxes. So these tax hikes that would be required to pay for it are inevitable. When elected officials say they’re going to do one thing when elected and then do another when they take office, it really bites people the wrong way.”
A recent report from the Parliamentary Budget Office projects a deficit of more than $16 billion dollars this year. The budget will come out on March 19th.
