Gas prices in Kamloops might go down by Sunday or Monday.
That’s according to Dan McTeague, with Gasbuddy.com, as most stations are selling gas at $127.9 in Kamloops today.
“Gas stations are buying their fuel for $1.16 or $1.17 a litre,” he said. “So it’s kind of hard to sell it for $1.18.”
“Most gas stations threw in the proverbial towel and raised their retail margins to reflect and recover and recoup some of those lost margins.”
He notes gas at Costco is about five to six cents cheaper because they’re able to get a bit of a discount from retailers, compared to other gas stations.
“They’re getting four or five cent discounts from refiners because they move more volume,” McTeague noted. “Everybody starts with the same price structure, except in Costco’s case you’re having to pay a membership fee there.”
“Plus. they don’t honour your credit card, only their credit card. And of course, if you want to wait in line, guess there’s savings to be had.”
As for the impending carbon tax increase on April 1, McTeague says Kamloops drivers can expect to pay about 1.2 cents a litre extra, with GST.
