The Liberal MLA for Kamloops North and opposition environment critic says some massive hypocrisy from the province has been revealed in court.
A constitutional challenge launched by B.C. over Alberta legislation that threatened to turn off the oil taps was thrown out by a judge who essentially said you can’t challenge something that was never passed into law.
Peter Milobar notes the province – in the court filing – made a case for how vital the Trans Mountain pipeline is to B.C., yet they’re opposing any expansion to it.
“It is a massive contradiction,” he said. “I think what people need to remember is the pipeline is essentially a highway, a highway for petroleum products to move to market.”
“Right now there are contracts in place to provide the distilled products down to the Lower Mainland predominantly, Kamloops as well, through that pipeline.”
Milobar says the Trans Mountain pipeline provides a safe way to get Canada’s oil and gas to market to a massive economic benefit.
