If you’ve been craving a glass of milk from Blackwell Dairy, tomorrow’s your lucky day.
About a year and a half after a fire destroyed the dairy, they’re expecting products to hit the shelves at grocery stores Friday.
Along with milk, Vice President Laura Hunter says you’ll be able to enjoy egg nog this Easter – if you’d like.
“Because we had promised it for Christmas and people say they want it for Easter so that’s what we’re working towards,” she said on the NL Morning News. “I’m working on a label as we speak.”
“Our regular products will be in the stores starting tomorrow and more again next week.”
She notes there never was any talk about permanently closing shop after the fire on June 14, 2017.
“The next morning when we got up and I said, you know, there’s going to be people here at 7 o’clock wanting to know what happened,” she recalled. “We always just said we’re starting the rebuild now.”
“We were literally on the phone the next morning at 8 o’clock calling engineers saying we need this information to rebuild.”
It’s been a long rebuild, but it’s almost complete – Blackwell Dairy got their producers licence on Wednesday.
“And so we are allowed to sell milk although it will take us a little bit of time to build inventory,” said Hunter.
“But as far as full steam ahead, yes, we have shipped the milk from our barn this morning, and we are processing today and that milk will be delivered to stores tomorrow.”
Orders have already started coming in, and Hunter says people can even buy products directly at the dairy in Barnhartvale.
